i have some very exciting (at least for me!) news! as you may have seen on my , i’ve made the decision to sell my echo park home and move to laguna beach! i love my home so much, but it’s a lot for me to maintain on my own, and i initially moved back here to care for my ailing mum, and ever since she passed away last year, i’ve been contemplating a move back to someplace near the sea. i really miss living near the ocean and my walks with lucy along the beach, so after spending some time in laguna beach i started to hunt for a little rental cottage. i want to try a new chapter and renting for a year is the best option for me to do that — to see if i like living there and if it’s a good fit. and it’s only an hour and a half from L.A. so not too far that i can’t visit my friends and them to come for a beach retreat! so, without further ado, here’s a sneak peek at my little casa laguna. it’s currently furnished, but i’ll be renting it unfurnished and making it my own little sanctuary. check my next post for my inspiration! oh, and if anyone is interested in my house, it’s not listed yet, but will be in a couple of weeks, and you can reach out to my realtor rob kallick at take sunset. cheers to new beginnings!

  1. you move fast! love your house but, as I live in England, bit of a stretch for me. hope the beach proves to be the place of your dreams

  2. What an exciting new adventure, Victoria! Congratulations! It’s an adorable cottage and will only become more charming with your touch. We are following in your footsteps and about to sell our cottage in SF ( you featured us in “Unexpected Guests”), renting for a bit, and looking for our own coastal cottage. I look forward to reading about your adventures in Laguna Beach.

  3. Congratulations, V.! I certainly understand the need for new chapters and fresh adventures and this looks like a perfect way to do it. About to embark on one of my own, as well, so, “Cheers!” xo B

  4. Dear Victoria, I have been reading your blog from the very start and just wanted to say how very happy I am for you. I can’t wait to see what you do with this beautiful space. Congratulations to you and to Lucy (ocean walks, every dog’s dream) and wishing you the very best. XXOO.

  5. Laguna is a magical place. Every time I visit [and I’m in So Cal] it feels like a vacation and a time travel to Europe.

  6. congrats victoria! how exciting for you- laguna is so lovely. i know you and lucy will love it there. i have a question for you- how did you go about finding your new cottage? i’ve been thinking about a similar move and have just started looking- not finding cottages with such character on the sites i’ve been to so far.
    so happy for you.

  7. This looks like such a fabulous place but I’m sad to see your Echo Park house go. I was so in love with it (it may have been distant but it was still love!).

I understand your predicament though. My father passed away and my current house is too much for me to maintain (it’s from 1870). I sold it even though it pained me to do it, I know it’s the right decision.

Good luck on the move. Can’t wait to see what you do with this!

  8. So smart to rent before buying! We recently relocated to Seattle from Santa Rosa for work, and are renting our home in wine country while we rent in Bothell, WA. I went from living 3 miles from town, and needing to drive everywhere, (but being able to walk to this winery and gardens https://www.matanzascreek.com/visit) to being able to walk to everything! I love it! But also very noisy (near fire station, post office with 3 am semi-trucks, and two daycares with screaming kids!) . Otherwise the house is perfect, but I know if we buy, likely it will be in this community, but farther from the noisy bustle. To shakeup my life at 58 (and shedding lots of possessions) has been very exciting, but also sad…mostly missing my old friends. But not selling our California home is my safety valve.
Here is hoping you love Laguna Beach, and can somehow swing owing two homes, as a rental property can be a great source of income in retirement, if that is a goal.

  9. Wonderful Victoria! Like everyone else I am eager to see your touches to the cottage. I understand Laguna beach is lovely… I’ve read how MFK Fisher would go as a child and her aunt would make delicious egg sandwiches to eat on the beach. I understand there are some good swimming beaches.

So exciting! I love that you keep going after what you desire in life. Take care!

  10. congratulations!! laguna beach is a beautiful place and i am sure that it will be very inspirational. i can not wait to see how you design this new space.
